Ahmad shines as KPK gets a close game against Sindh

KPK once again proved out to be an excellent team as they were able to beat down Sindh in their final pool match. KPK made 319 runs thanks to a brilliant hundred by Captain Ahmad Shahzad. Sindh couldn’t get the accelerator in the final overs despite Khalid finishing on 168 not out.

Ahmad Shahzad won the toss earlier and he opted to bat first on another good looking batting track. The idea was to post a healthy total up front in order to soak Sindh team in pressure during the chase in the second innings.

Ahmad Shahzad started from where he left the proceedings against Balochistan in the batting. Sindh bowling is pretty ordinary except for Mohammad Amir. Sohail Khan was taken to the cleaners by Ahmad in his first spell.

He bowled some short pitch delivery to him and all of them went for four runs on the leg side. Ahmad flicked the first two towards the square leg fence while the third was a big pull down towards the deep backward point fence.

Fakhar too was in action straight away, hitting few shots in the gaps. Ahmad and Fakhar took complete advantage of the power play. The two added some good number of runs. The interesting part was the hardly went for any attack. They played orthodox cricket today.

They hit bad balls for boundaries and at the same time, they tickled good balls for singles and doubles. Ahmad reached his fifty in the 19th over and after a couple of over Fakhar reached his. Their hundred run partnership also was completed in the 19th over.

In the 31st over Fakhar was taken by Sarfraz behind the stumps for 68 off Bilal ad KPk lost their first wicket. Zohaib once again got  batting promotion. He and Ahmad then started making another good partnership for the KPK team.

Ahmad in the mean time reached his hundred as well. He played really well for his ton. He played each shot on merit and especially neutralized Mohammad Amir rally well with the new ball.

Ahmad fell to Bilal again after making 143 runs. He was caught by Raees. At that stage, KPK scorecard was 238 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 39.2 overs. Clearly the indication was that they will end up with something massive.

Zohaib 27 and Bismillah Khan 25 played well in the final overs and once they got out it looked that KOK might not reach 300 runs mark. At that stage, Adil Amin and Fahim Ashraf accelerated the innings with some stunning shots. The two batsmen hit 6 fours a six to help KPK finish on 319 runs. Both of them hit 20 runs each. Fahim remained not out with Yasir Shah.

For Sindh, Mohammad Amir, Roman Raees, and Bilal Asif picked up 2 wickets apiece. KPK were happy to hit a strong total against a strong unit of Sindh.

The chase for Sindh had a disastrous start; Khurram Manzoor who hit two back to back hundreds in the previous two games was caught in the slips by Ahmad Shahzad of Sameen Gul in the second over. Sami Aslam was outdone by Adil on a direct hit.

Sohaib Maqsood played today for the Sindh and he edged Zia to Bismillah Khan and Sindh was in no time 22 for the loss of 3 wickets.

Khalid Latif and Fawad Alam then stable the innings for Sindh. Khalid looked absolutely brilliant with his ground shots. He did not take many risks in the initial phase of his innings. He was more into taking singles and doubles and learning more and more about the pace of the wicket.

He only opened up once he got settled. Fawad played the role of a good helping hand to Khalid. The two not only hit boundaries regularly, but also were pretty keen in changing the strike in every over.

The interesting part was they not only stopped the wicket’s flow, but also took back the attack on the KPK. Khalid hits a tremendous ton to his name while Fawad picked up 74 runs in the match. After hitting 7 fours and 1 six Fawad fell to Sameen Gul.

Khalid did not stop from hitting around despite Sarfraz to getting out shortly after Fawad. Sarfraz was stumped by Bismillah Khan off Yasir. Bilal played a handy innings of 21 but it was not that much quicker and the required run rate was climbing really fast.

Khalid was hitting a lot of boundaries in the final overs. In the last two over Sindh required 40 runs and when Asghar was hit for 4 sixes it looked as if Sindh might slip away with a chance here. Both Khalid and Sohail hit Asghar for 2 sixes each in that over.

But Zia bowled an excellent final over. He just gave 8 runs and that too because Khalid hit his last ball for a four to wide of long off. Khalid remained not out on 168 off 129 balls. He hit 11 fours and 9 sixes in his innings. Zia picked up 3 wickets for KPK while Sameen 2 and Yasir ended his spell taking 1 wicket. Ahmad Shahzad was presented with the man of the match award.
