Babar Azam ton puts him into record books

Babar Azam, the young and flamboyant middle-order batsman from Pakistan has made history. The young lad smashed 117 off just 106 balls to become a first Pakistani batter to hit three hundred on a trot in a three-match bilateral series.

21-year-old Babar had earlier scored 120 and 123 in the first two games played in Sharjah last Friday and Sunday. He is in an impeccable form with the bat.Babar now lists with names like Zaheer Abbas and Saeed Anwar. The former two also have made three consecutive hundreds in three ODI games. But Babar’s tons are unique as they came in a three-match bilateral series.

Earlier South Africa’s Quinton de Kock was the only batsman to have hit three hundred in all three matches of a bilateral series. He stroked his tons against India on their home grounds.

Collectively Babar is the 8th ODI batsmen to have scored three continues hundreds after Kumar Sangakkara, Zaheer Abbas, Saeed Anwar, HH Gibbs, AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock and Ross Taylor.

Not only this, but Babar’s 120, 123 and 117 have put him as the leading run scorer in a three-match bilateral series. Earlier, De Kock’s flourishing tons and a total of 342 runs made his reign over this domain. But anymore, Babar with 360 runs against West Indies is the new king now.

The Lahore-born batter is also the first Pakistani batsman to have scored three hundred against the West Indies. Mohammad Yousuf, Ramiz Raja, and Saeed Anwar in the past had 2 hundred each against the men from the Caribbean.

Babar may also be able to hit another world record in the future. He has 886 ODI runs in 18 innings. He can become the fastest player to reach 1000 ODI in the least number of innings. The current world record is held by 4 players. Sir Vivian Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathon Trott, and Quinton de Kock all took 21 games to reach 1000 ODI runs. Babar has to make 114 runs in 3 matches to break or join the record books again. Babar currently is at the top after putting 886 runs after 18 innings. Sir Vivian Richards had 883 runs in 18 games.
