Notable things from Pakistan Vs West Indies ODI series

Pakistan carried their T20 series momentum into the One Day Internationals and managed to whitewash West Indies again. With the dust settling on the three-nil series victory by the Men in Green, the following are the notable things from both sides.

Pakistan have gained a lot from the three-match series whereas a lot of negative can be seen from the visiting side

.Babar: Pakistan next big icon

The 21 year old solved Pakistan’s number three problem during the three-match T20I series between the two sides. In the 50-over format, he carried his class and made his name in the history books.

The lad from Lahore smashed a ton in each of the three ODI, ultimately leading his side to glory. He helped his side to post mammoth totals in all three matches, which they easily triumphed in the end.

He became the second only player to smash tons in all three matches of a series after South Africa’s Quinton de Kock. Babar is also the eighth player and third Pakistani to record three consecutive centuries in an ODI.

His heroics have earned him a call for the Test squad. With his young age, he can learn and achieve a lot in his career.

West Indies in Freefall

The World T20 champions were expected to outclass Pakistan in United Arab Emirates after their recent success against India in limited-overs. They had won the coveted tournament of T20 format and were looking sharp in the limited-overs. However, they failed to even bag a consolation victory against Pakistan.

With the series defeat, the Caribbean side lost its eighth spot at the ICC ODI rankings to Pakistan. This further dented their chances for automatic qualification for the World Cup 2019. Only the host and top seven teams will directly reach into the coveted tournament.

Azhar not the right man to lead Pakistan

Regardless of smashing a ton in the final ODI at Sheikh Zayed Sports Complex in Abu Dhabi, the Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali is not the right main to lead the squad. He was dismissed in the very first ball of the opening ODI in Sharjah. In the second match, the veteran only contributed nine runs form 18 balls. He even drew cheers from portion crowd in Sharjah after he was ousted in the match.

Pakistan suffered a heavy 4-1 loss against England under Azhar. This included his team facing the highest total ODI target in history of cricket.

His job is now secured since he grabbed a whitewash and steered Pakistan to number eight spot in the ODI rankings of ICC.

Sunil Narine lost his touch

The West Indies star bowler Narine is not the same as he was before. He was the top bowler from both ODI and T20 format before he got banned from ICC for illegal bowling action.

After getting cleared from the ban in November last year, Narine registered 15 scalps from 10 ODIs. This included six from the first game since his ban against South Africa.

However, his form has dipped since then. He failed to pick up a single wicket from five consecutive T20 Internationals.

Throughout the tour to United Arab Emirates, Narine does not look the same as he was before getting the ban. Just like Pakistan’s SaeedAjmal, he is no longer threatening in limited-overs with the 15-degree limit.

Lack of death hitters

Despite easily winning the three-match One Day Internationals, Pakistan lacks hitters in the end. With the final 10 overs of the innings, the death hitters can easily extend tally of 300 to tally of 350 to 400.

The Men in Green clicked against the struggling West Indies side. However, they require death power hitters to overpower stronger opponents like England, Australia, South Africa etc.
