Azhar Ali In History Books With His Century

Pakistan vice-captain Azhar Ali displayed his best cricket in the opening day at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and after hammering a century, he became the first person to achieve the feat in a Day and Night Test match.

The Men in Green put up a solid performance in the first day of their historic 400thTest match. They recorded a mammoth score of 279 with the loss of just one wicket on Thursday.

After a long time Pakistan saw the openers Azhar and Sami Aslam clicking in the Tests. Both stars jolted down a superb opening stand of 215 runs in Dubai. This was also the nation’s fourth biggest opening stand in the longer format of the game.

The left-handed batsman was just 10 runs short of grabbing his maiden century. He was ousted by Roston Chase.

However, the One Day International skipper Azhar made his mark in the history of cricket as he impressively notched up his century. He became the first ever centurion in Day and Night Test match. The star ended the day at 146 not out with AsadShafiq who managed 33 runs without getting out.

The 31 year old smashed his 11th Test ton in his 50th Test match. Only two Pakistani players have jolted down more tons from 50 matches. The little master Hanif Mohammad and experienced Younis Khan hammered 12 centuries during this time span of their career. Mohammad Yousuf has also bagged 11 centuries from 50 Tests.

The Lahore born star was struggling to find his form prior to the West Indies tour. He was the captain of the ODI side when they suffered a brutal 4-1 loss at the hands of England few weeks ago.

In the ODI series against the Caribbean side, Azhar was ousted in the very first ball of the opening match in Sharjah. In the second, he only managed nine runs from 18 balls. However, the veteran clicked in the final match in Abu Dhabi where he hammered a ton and lead his side to glory.

Pakistan is facing off West Indies for three match Test series which will conclude the Caribbean side’s tour to United Arab Emirates. The Men in Green have already whitewashed West Indies in T20 and One Day International series.
