India Vs New Zealand: 4th ODI – Preview

India eyeing to wrap up the series whereas the Black Caps are hoping to square in the fourth One Day international at Ranchi on 26th October. The hosts are flying high after crushing the higher ranked Kiwis in their last match at Mohali. Besides losing the openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane earlier in the match, India showed composure and took a 2-1 lead in the five-match One Day International series.

The vice-captain Virat Kohli carried his rhythm and after posting an unbeaten 154 took his team to glory. The captain of the team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni also enjoyed his new position. He went to bat ahead of Manesh Pandey at number four and contributed vital 80 runs in the match. Dhoni now looks more dangerous and more confident at this new order. The 35-year-old stressed that batting at this position gave him more freedom to play and he is looking forward to playing in this spot in future.

India ultimately sealed the match with seven wickets and 10 balls in hand. They will keep the winning combination for the fourth ODI and will continue to rest their key bowlers for the upcoming busy home Test season. The spin tandem of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja and fast bowler Mohammad Shammi are not included in the final two matches as well.

The rising star Kedar Jadhav is making tides in the cricket world and will give tough time to Indian selectors when the key bowlers will return. He has already bagged six wickets and claimed three scalps in Mohali after leaking just 29 runs.

However, the opening bowlers lacked discipline and the home side might do something about it in Ranchi.

The visitors on the other end showed up brilliant batting skills and racked up a good total tally. However, the bowlers failed miserably as they could not contain India especially their captain.

Despite good batting show, the middle order batsmen Ross Taylor and Luke Ronchi need to unveil their true colors if they want to get back in the series.

New Zealand needs to rekindle their spark like they did at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. The skipper hammered a ton in Delhi with the opener Tom Latham assisting him with 46 runs. Despite posting 242 runs, the tourists managed to win by six runs in the final over in the second ODI. Tim Southee picked up three wickets in the match and the bowlers bowled out the entire team of India.

Players to watch:

Tom Latham: The youngster was the top scorer in Mohali of his side with 61 runs. Mustering it further, he is also the leading score-getter for New Zealand in this tour. He is expected to keep the momentum rolling at Ranchi and will steer his side glory.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni: The ODI skipper shrugged off his critics after posting 80 runs at number four. He has found the right combination and is expected to unleash his skills again in the fourth match.
