Most matches for first Test catch

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir set a new record in the cricket world. He required most matches to take his first catch in the longer format of the game.

The left hand pacer pouched the ball flicked from Darren Bravo in the third Test between Pakistan and West Indies at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. He recorded a spectacular diving catch off Zulfiqar Babar.

With Pakistan eyeing to record a historic 9-0 whitewash against the Caribbean side in United Arab Emirates, Amir set up his record for taking most Test matches for maiden catch.

Amir was not able to take catches in the longer format but he has recorded an amazing 66 scalps from 19 Tests. He has a brilliant average of 31.96 and an economy rate of 3.07. Mustering it further, the 24 year old picked up three wickets in the crucial second innings of the opening Test at Dubai International Cricket Stadium which Pakistan won by 56 runs against West Indies.

In the second place comes England star Geoff Pullar who grabbed his first catch in the 17th Test match. He got the breakthrough after catching the ball off Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammad in Lahore in 1961-62.

Australian legend Glenn McGrath ended his catching draught in his 16th Test match.

Amir’s compatriot Mohammad Sami also hanged on the ball in his 16th Test match.

Australian duo of Geoff Dymock and Jim Higgs pouched the ball for the first time in their 15th Test match.

Craig Matthews of South Africa took his maiden catch in his 14th match of the longer format.

West Indies’ Kenny Benjamin required 13 Tests for his first catch.

The list is concluded by South Africa’s Tufty Mann and Jerome Taylor of West Indies who needed 12 Test matches to grab their first catch.
