Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistani cricketer, is currently in action in Bangladesh Premier League for his team, Dhaka Dynamites. In his first match of the season, he won the game for his team and is keen on replicating match-winning performances in the fixtures to follow.
Yesterday, the players of the Dhaka franchise visited the historical Lalbag Fort to promote the initiative of ‘goli cricket’ – an initiative aimed at promoting street cricket in the county. During the visit, Afridi spoke about his experience in Bangladesh and how he feels to come here and play.
“Almost every cricketer started their cricket with street cricket type of game. I think I must give credit to Dhaka Dynamites owners, CEO, management and coaches for bringing the whole team here to attract each and everyone,” said Afridi.
“I think, it’s a very good initiative and that we should continue it. Obviously, it’s not about just cricket, we have a social life and the community we have, whereby we have a lot of fans. They want to see their cricketers one to one. So, I am very happy.”
Speaking on his stay in Bangladesh, Afridi mentioned that he loves coming to Bangladesh. The love that he gets from the fans is always amazing.
“I always enjoy Bangladesh. It’s my second home. I always enjoy playing cricket here. I always get good response, respect and love from the people here. That’s why I also love to play here and come here every year to play cricket. Foods are very similar like Pakistani food. There is no difference,” said the former Pakistani cricketer.
