Virat Kohli is continuing his dream run with the bat in 2017. The Indian captain has smashed a double-century in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. The VCA Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the Indians and it remained the same over the weekend as Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and the skipper himself.
There are few amazing similarities between Virat Kohli’s double hundred today and Sachin Tendulkar’s double hundred back in 2000.
In the ongoing second Test, Virat Kohli, the number 4 in the batting line-up notched up a double-century and the opener Murali Vijay scored a century. Also, Pujara spent 500 minutes on the crease for his 143-run knock. The current Test match is the second of the series.
What are the similarities?
Rewind way back to 2000. Test match between India and Zimbabwe at the same venue. Sachin Tendulkar, the then number 4 smashed a double-hundred in the game to go with a century from the opener Shiv Sunder Das. Also, at that time, the wall Rahul Dravid scored a hundred.
The double-hundred from the master blaster was 200th double century in the history of Test cricket. The India had also batted on the same days like today’s game and the match was also the second Test of the series.
However, in that game, Zimbabwe had staged an impressive comeback in the second innings and managed to draw the match. India would hope they would be able to fold the second innings of Sri Lanka and win the match.
