The Australian tour of Bangladesh has officially been called off. Cricket Australia announced late on Thursday night that the upcoming Test tour of Bangladesh has been postponed due to unsatisfactory security conditions in the country. The Bangladeshi’s were hoping that an improved security offer would be excepted after the Australian players were sent back home to their district teams. But according to the James Sutherland, CEO of Cricket Australia, the increased security risk for the Austarlian team left them with no choice but to take the decision.

Tough Decision!

The decision was referred to as “very difficult to make” by Sutherland, who also mentioned that it was taken based on a highly detailed set of results and investigations carried out collectively by the Australian government agencies and security advisors. According to Sutherland, the whole team made immense efforts in favor of the tour to proceed, but it just proved impossible at the end.

“We understand that this decision will be very disappointing for the cricket community in Bangladesh. However, from an Australian perspective, the safety of our players and officials is our highest priority. We will work with the BCB to reschedule the tour as soon as possible. Cricket Australia and the BCB both exist to stage international cricket. It is therefore so disappointing that external influences have affected a tour that many Bangladeshis and Australians were looking forward to.”

One has to agree with Mr Sutherland here. From the point of view of the welfare and safety of the Aussie players, as well as the rest of the staff, the decision has to be deemed the correct one. The players have already expressed their disappointment after the news broke out, as they would have relished a battle with the inform Bengalis. They however, seem to be fully supportive of the board’s decision to pull out of the tour.

The Bangladeshi tigers have been in red hot form all year long, with great performances in the world cup and then ODI series upsets against three of cricket’s biggest giants in India, Pakistan and South Africa. Their cricket is certainly on the rise and a lot of exciting times lie ahead for you if you find yourself a Bangladeshi supporter. Them hosting the World Champions would have been a must see encounter, but the fans would have to wait a bit longer to witness that happening. How longer they’d have to wait, nobody is sure as of now, but as Sutherland said in his interview, both boards are currently working on the rescheduling of the tour. It all depends on the security conditions in Bangladesh, which don’t seem too promising for the time being.

The Australian players traveled back to their respective domestic teams. They are believed to be joining their sides to take part in the Matador One Day Tournament which is due to start in a week’s time.
