South Africa dominate India in first T20

Duminy cancels out Rohit Ton

Rohit Sharma jotted down his name in the history books as only the 15th player to register a hundred in International Twenty Twenty games. By doing so, he also became only the second to make a century in T20 Internationals, the other one being Suresh Raina. Unfortunately for Rohit and his whole team, his brilliant hundred was totally overshadowed by Duminy from the other side, who perfectly orchestrated an amazing opening game win for the visitors.

Thanks to Rohit Sharma’s magical knock, the visitors were left to chase a total of 200. Now, although the total seemed a massive one and given the fact that the Indians were playing on homesoil, the South Africans got assigned quite a job. Only once had they previously successfully completed a chase of 200 or more in Twenty Twenty matches.

Great De Villiers and Amla start fed on well by Duminy & Behardein

The opening pair of De Villiers and Amla made a stunning start to the game going 77 runs without being dismissed. However they both gave away their wickets in quick succession, after a great start, leaving the proteas on the backfoot. However, technically, a team can never be on the backfoot if the batting lineup is filled with world class stars from top to bottom. South Africa’s leading run scorer for the year, and the second highest run scorer in T20s for them, JP Duminy, came up to the rescue in exquisite fashion.

Duminy showed his class with a brilliantly paced innings as he brought the proteas back in the game with a mindblowing 4th wicket partnership alongside Farhaan Behardein. The duo’s 105 run stand took them to the finishing line in some style. The proteas chased down a total of 200 or more in T20s for only the second time in their history. Moreover, the headline “Visitors South Africa beat India by 7 wickets” said it all. It is indeed a cracking victory for the proteas to kick the series off.

Top performers of the Losing Team:

Rohit Sharma’s 106 off 66 deliveries was without a doubt the highlight of the Indian team, as it help them set a target of 200 for the visitors. In his score of 106, Rohit hit a total of 12 fours and 5 sixes. Virat Kohli’s 43 off 27 balls gave his partner Rohit a decent hand. In doing So Kohli also reached the 1000 run mark in T20 Internationals, becoming the first Indian to do so.

Top performers of the Winning Team:

Both openers, AB De Villiers and Hashim Amla were massively crucial in the proteas chasing down the total. Amla’s 36 off 24 and AB’s 51 off 32 set the pace for the protean innings. Duminy and Behardein gave the perfect of finishing touches to the game with scores of 68 and 32 respectively.
We’re just past the first game of the series, but one has to admit the South Africans are looking in scintillating form with the bat. With the T20 World Cup looming just around the corner next year, can we already regard them among the top favorites?
