The ongoing season of the IPL has witnessed quite a few instances where players have expressed their disappointment towards the umpire’s decisions. Several big names like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have lashed out at poor umpiring decisions which have already costed their respective teams in crunch moments during the tournament. Rohit Sharma became the latest to join the list during the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
It all happened on the third ball of the fourth over when a straight delivery from KKR pacer Harrey Gurney hit Rohit Sharma on the back leg as he tried to play across the line. There was a big appeal from the KKR players and the umpire’s finger was raised. Rohit Sharma however was not convinced and decided to go for the review after consulting his partner Evin Lewis at the other end. Replays showed that the ball was just kissing the leg stump and the umpire’s decision stayed.
The decision however did not go down well with the Mumbai Indians skipper who surprising lost his cool in the heat of the moment. Rohit didn’t seem happy at all with that the fact that the umpire’s call proving to be the deciding factor in his wicket. He was seen having a brief chat with the umpire and knocking down the bails with his bat at the bowler’s end before heading back to the pavilion after scoring 12 runs off 9 balls. It was an act that would certainly be debated as far as the spirit of the game is concerned.
