Mahela Jayawardene played one of the most entertaining knocks in MCL today as the Sagittarius Strikers won a comfortable game against the Sagittarius Strikers in Sharjah. The MCL was initially ruled by the bats of Sehwag and Sangakkara but not anymore as Jayawardene has also joined the league of big hitters now.
Sagittarius Strikers won the toss and elected to bat first and went off to a flying start thanks to Gilchrist and Jayawardene who blasted 102 runs in 9.5 overs. Strikers hardly went under any confrontation due to the form their openers showed.
Gilchrist went after getting caught and bowled by Boje on 38. He hit 3 sixes and 3 fours, but his partner Jayawardene continued to dominate against the Legends bowling unit. Jayawardene was in sublime touch. He only rested after making 124 off 60 balls.
Jayawardene hit a series of sixes and fours in his innings. He smoked 9 sixes and 10 fours in his innings and completely took away the game from the Legends. Strikers had Imran Farhat, who made 18. Then Carberry made 23 and remained not out till the end.
The star of the show for Strikers remained Jayawardene. His innings was a special one and turned the game into a one-sided contest. Strikers ended up making 227 for the loss of 3 wickets.
Legends were never in the game as Lumb departed early after making 13. Toufeeq did not do well and failed at 3. Bond took them both out in the opening spell for Strikers. Kallis got run out at 25 and when Ten Doeschate was stumped off Vettori, Legends were 4 down under 100 runs and from there it looked almost impossible.
Ervin did manage to entertain the crowd with his 55 off 20 balls with 5 sixes and 4 fours. Vettori picked up 2 wickets in the middle order of Legends and as there was no substantial amount of runs scored at the top and middle order from the Legends, they eventually finished up making 164. Strikers won the game by 63 runs. Jayawardene walked away taking the man of the match award.
