Bilal Asif takes 5 as spinners destroy Zimbabwe

Shining new-comers!

Allrounder Bilal Asif was playing in just his second One Day International and he did the unthinkable. A magnificent 5 wicket haul from the young off spinner saw Zimbabwe’s top order get shredded to pieces. Bilal’s incredible effort saw the hosts get bowled out for a low total of 161 in the final at Harare Sports Club.

Bilal got off to an average start with 4 wicket-less overs, after whiched he blazed fire on the Zimbabwe batting attack. Bilal took wickets at regular intervals following his first 4 overs, with some stunning off break bowling that left the batsman startled. His efforts were also aided from the other side of the fence. Thanks to some very soft batting from Zimbabwe’s middle order, they kept losing wickets regularly and totally lost the plot after a brilliant opening batting stand by Mutumbami and Chibhabh. Zimbabwe lost 10 wickets for just 72 runs, thanks primarily to some very ordinary batting and Bilal Asif’s 5 for 25.

Zimbabwe’s openers Chibhabha and Mutumbami seemed to read Bilal quite well early on, but the former’s dismissal ignited their downfall. The young Pakistani off spinner picked up the wickets of Sean Williams and Elton Chigumbura in the same over. Williams tried to loft Bilal over his head, but instead handed the bowler a very easy catch. Chigumbura’s wicket meant there was little to no hope left for the Zimbabwe innings to progress any further.

Sikandar Raza then attempted a loose sweep, exposing the stumps completely, only for Bilal to bag his 4th wicket of the game. Tino Mutombodzi was bowled by Bilal too, as the Pakistani youngster completed a brilliant 5 wicket haul for just 25 runs. Bilal’s 5th wicket left the hosts at 127 for 6 in only the 31st over of the innings. Who would have imagined these figures following the amazing start put in by Chibhabha and Mutumbami.

Imad keeps prolific figures

Imad Wasim, who has already shown what he is capable of in the previous games, picked up two more wickets in this game. Pakistan’s spin attack dismissed 9 Zimbabwe batsman in the innings, which is no surprise to be honest. The hosts have had their batsman struggle against spin quite badly throughout the whole tour. Mutumbami played a fine knock, but he had no significant support from his teammates. The hosts collapsed, leaving Pakistan with a fairly simple total to chase.
