Gemini Arabians register their first win in MCL

Gemini Arabians registered their first win against the Libra Legends today in the opening match of MCL 2016. Gemini Arabians scored a mammoth total of 234 and straight away pushed the Legends to the wall in Dubai. Eventually, the Legends fell short of the total and Arabians won the game by 78 runs.

Earlier, Legends won the toss and decided to field first on a dead rubber that had nothing for the bowlers. Virender Sehwag started the game in his own way slamming 21 off 11 balls. McKay gave the ball some swing, but he was imperfect with the line and Sehwag took him for plenty in his first over. Levi was keeping things quiet at the other end only until Sehwag edged the ball high in the air to Hogg off Butler.

After that Levi and Sangakkara had plenty of fun with the Legends bowling unit. From 54 for 1, they took the score to 138 for 2. Levi hit 62 with the help of 3 sixes and 4 fours. But the lead role was taken by Sangakkara, who took 7 balls to get off the mark and was on 7 after facing 14 balls. After that, the left-hander just exploded. Sangakkara blasted a cameo of 86 runs off just 43 balls. The Arabians went right at the top with his innings and never step down from there to the end of the game.

Sangakkara had hit plenty of boundaries. He named  sixes and 6 fours to himself. After Levi departed, Arabians captain Hodge took the strike and his 46 off 19 balls took the Arabians to over 200. The death overs for the Legends produced a lot of runs.

In the chase, the Legends were never in the game. Kallis started hitting boundaries but was caught at point by Levi, giving Mills his first scalp. Toufeeq Umar caught himself run out in a bizarre manner followed by North and opener Lumb departing back to back left Legends stranded in the middle at 43 for 4. Some fight back was shown by Ten Doeschate (54), Ervine (22) and Ambrose (30) but it was just not enough. The Arabians throughout the match had their grip on the game. Mills, Muralitharan and Rana Naveed picked up 2 wickets apiece for the Arabians. Sangakkara was named player of the match.
