ICC Rankings: India’s Axar Patel moves to 9th in ODI rankings for bowlers

India’s shining left-arm spinner and handy lower order batsman, has climbed five places to be ranked 9th in the latest International Cricket Council ICC Rankings for ODI Bowlers.

This is the young allrounder’s first breakthrough into the top ten of the ICC Rankings. Despite the fact that Patel got only four wickets, his performances were pivotal behind added pressure on the visiting New Zealand side.

Another spinner who had enjoyed an awesome run in the victorious 5-match ODI series against the kiwis was Amit Mishra. Mishra, who was eventually named Man of the Series having picked 15 scalps in the five ODIs, jumped a whopping 25 spots to be set 12th in the new rankings level on points with South Africa’s Premier paceman Dale Steyn.

Trent Boult remains top-ranked ODI bowler, followed by spinenrs Sunil Narine and Imran Tahir.

For New Zealand, couple of positives left the India visit, the greatest among them being left-hander Tom Latham. Latham was one of only a handful couple of New Zealand batsmen to stand his ground against the Indian assault. Latham’s 244 in the ODI series helped him ascend to a career-high 39th position in the ODI rankings for batsmen.

Despite an injury hit season, AB de Villiers remains the leader of the batsmens pack in ODIs. Virat Kohli has enjoyed a stellar 2016, and is 2nd.
