IPL 2019: MS Dhoni loses his cool, storms onto the field after umpire revokes a no ball call in the last over

The ongoing season of the IPL has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons, starting from Ashwin mankading Jos Buttler to Malinga’s last ball no ball not being called on the last ball of the game. The match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday saw yet another big controversy unfold as the onfield umpire revoked a clear no ball after signalling it a few moments earlier evoking a strong reaction from the CSK camp.

It all happened on the fourth ball of the last over of the match when Ben Stokes bowled a full toss to Mitchell Santner with CSK needing just 8 off 3 balls. Umpire Ulhas Gandhe signalled for a no-ball immediately after the ball was bowled, but went back to consult square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford to a take final call. The two umpires had a brief chat before deciding that it was a legal delivery.

The call evoked a sharp reaction from the two Chennai batsmen at the crease, Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner who had felt that it was a no ball and had calculated things accordingly. The drama continued to unfold as a furious looking MS Dhoni stormed onto the pitch to demand an explanation from the on field umpires. The umpires, however, were vehement on not changing their decision despite Dhoni’s disapproval and Chennai had to settle for it not being called a no ball.

It was however the CSK skipper who had the last laugh as Santner hit the final ball for a six to bring up a four-wicket victory and Dhoni’s 100th win in the IPL as a captain. With the win, CSK now have 6 wins from 7 games to consolidate their position at the top of the points table as far as IPL 2019 is concerned.
