Pakistan cricket is currently going through a wobbly period and things don’t seem to get on the right track anytime soon. In this frenzy situation, it is easier to play the blame game, save face and live another day. Unfortunately, this situation has been going on for a long time now and someone has to stand up to resolve the issue.
The question is; if things weren’t good in the first place, then, why didn’t the higher authorities took any action before? Why they didn’t have enough courage to clean up the mess within the organization? Why couldn’t they appoint right people for a particular role purely on merit? Why do they have to compensate a few people by sending them on foreign tours with the team? These are a few questions which every loyal Pakistani citizen wants to ask from it’s board.
Referring to the World T20, 2016, at least 10-12 officials have been sent with the team and for no particular reason. Despite these officials which include three coaches i:e head coach, Waqar Younis, batting coach, Grant Flower, bowling coach, Azhar Mahmood, Pakistan team has still failed to impress. People are rightly pointing fingers at the top management as well as the players who are certainly answerable to this cricket crazy Nation.
First, this Pakistan side failed miserably during the 2016 edition of the Asia Cup which was held in Bangladesh. The Green Shirts managed only two wins against the lowly ranked UAE side and the rebuilding Srilanka. Led by Pakistan’s all-time favourite, Shahid Afridi, Pakistan lost its matches to India & Bangladesh, crashing them out of the finals. Later on, India, went on to become the Asian champions.
Pakistan selectors saved their faces by removing a couple of players from the squad which was bound to travel to India for the World T20. It is unfortunate that no one wants to perform their duties sincerely in this Country and as a result people are suffering either directly or indirectly.
Same is the case with the PCB appointed selection panel, who are quite reluctant to travel to various parts of the Country in order to find the hidden talent which is what their job demands. As a result, we, the Nation, are used to see all the familiar faces again & again with a renewed hope. Even the PCB Chairman isn’t capable enough to take some action against those who aren’t performing their duties properly nor making selections on merit.
These things are destroying Pakistan cricket big time along with increasing politics within the team. As a result of this politics, the team has been divided into two groups which is also responsible in affecting the match results. Probably the time has come now, when, operation clean-up is badly required within the team as well its management.
Our cricket board will need to take some bold steps in order to get rid of this desperate situation and induct some fresh blood in the team. People have already seen enough of the tried & tested ones, and now is the time to clean the mess up.
This is not the first time when Pakistan cricket had to suffer due to in-capability of a few individuals. However, there is always the right time for everything and in order to avoid this unfortunate situation from happening again in the future, all those who are responsible, no matter how big a name they are, as long as they aren’t loyal to their Country, should be thrown out of this set-up.
