Pakistan is set to face West Indies in a three match Test series starting from 23rd September in the United Arab Emirates.
Men in Greens showed dismal performances in the World T20 and eventually exited from the group stages. Misbah UlHaq stepped down from the leadership role after receiving criticism. However, Pakistan outclassed England in their most recent T20I match.
Pakistan led by Azhar Ali in the ODI format suffered a brutal 4-1 series defeat at the hands of England. However, the one-off T20I match between the two sides which concluded the Pakistan’s tour, they won convincingly.
Sarfraz Ahmed was leading the team for the first time and ended up getting a 100 per cent win record for Pakistan.
Pakistan restricted the hosts to low tally of 135 after brilliant stint from the bowlers. WahabRiaz was the Man of the Match after he grabbed three wickets and conceded only 18 runs in the match. Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir also bagged pair each.
In the batting side Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif both posted half centuries and easily let their side chase the target with 31 balls to spare. Pakistan won the match with nine wickets in the end.
After leading his team to glory, the beaming captain highlighted that they just made a plan and executed it. He was quoted in a post-match press conference, “We decided the plan was short balls and slower balls, and we executed our plans very well.”
Umar Akmal has been called in for the T20 squad after his brilliant domestic performances. AsadShafiq is likely to make a comeback as well along with the former skipper Salman Butt. The 31 year old was caught up in spot fixing scandal at Lord’s six years ago but has been cleared now by the Pakistan Cricket Board. He will be replacing Sami Aslam as opener who was struggling to find his form.
Left arm fast bowler RummanRaees and batting all-rounder SaadNasim are included in the 15 man squad which will face West Indies.
West Indies on the other hand are in great form in the shortest format of the game. They have recently conquered the World T20 and then carried their form against India. They are all geared up to face the Asian side.
The Caribbean side led by Darren Sammy overpowered the hosts India in the semi-final to face England in the final showdown. Carlos Brathwaite smashed four sixes in the final over and claimed the title.
They carried their form in the recent T20 clash against India at Lauderhill. Regardless of losing the Test series 0-2 against the Blues, West Indies dominated at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium. Darren Sammy was stripped off from his captaincy and could not make into the squad due to his poor performances at the World T20. As a result Brathwaite stepped up and took control.
Evin Lewis smashed a century and Charles grabbed a fifty as the home side recorded 245. Sharma and Rahul helped India in fighting back but were one run short in the end as West Indies claimed the victory.
The second match was washed out and the Champions triumph the series against India.
West Indies are now giving chance to the youngsters. The squad which will face Pakistan includes two uncapped players Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran.
The skipper is urging the youngsters to play their original game and give their best in the upcoming series. Both newcomers have proven them in this season Caribbean Premier League and are all geared up for the tour.
Both sides are in great form and the fans can expect mouth-watering clashes.
The warm-up match will start on 20th September when the West Indies side will face Emirates Cricket Board XI.
The first match and second T20I matches are scheduled in Dubai on 23rd and 24th September respectively. The third T20I between the two sides will take place in Abu Dhabi on 27th September.
After the T20I series, both countries will face each other in three match One Day International series starting on 30th September in Sharjah.
