Islamabad United could not continue their winning run as they fell to an embarrassing 7 wicket defeat at the hands of a clinical Quetta Gladiators side.

On a good batting pitch, the Islamabad United batting lineup on the back of two convincing wins against Karachi and Lahore failed to capitalize on the gained momentum, as the Quetta bowlers ran past them in commanding fashion. Shane Watson continued his good form into this game, as he raced to 40 off just 28 deliveries, hitting 3 sixes and as many fours.

Sharjeel Khan as Islamabad United’s highest run scorer in their record chase against the Lahore Qalandars. Though, this time the young man failed to impress, mishitting a Zulfiqar Babar full-toss straight into the hands of Akbar-ur-Rehman.

Watson’s wicket in the 7th over led to a total collapse for the Islamabad batting lineup who in no time found themselves 6 down for 86 on the board. United somehow stretched past the 100 runs mark and finished at 118.

Chasing a super easy total on a flat batting track, shockingly Quetta got off to the worst start possible. Andre Russell absolutely mauled their top order bagging the in-form opening pair of Luke Wright and Kevin Pietersen in two balls, bringing United back in the game bigg time. The Gladiators were 2 down for 14, which showed glimpses of a similar performance by Islamabad against Karachi in which they successfully defended a low total.

Though Ahmed Shehzad and Sarfraz Ahmed calmed the storm and their coolheads constructed a healthy 59 run partnership in 7 overs to kill half the chase. Shehzad fell for 41 but Safraz dragged his side home with a magnificent 50 off just 38 deliveries, hitting 6 smashy boundaries.

Quetta got over the line with almost 4 overs to go and with 7 wickets in hand. Apart from their below par performance against the Lahore Qalandars, Quetta have by far been the most entertaining side in the PSL. With their latest drubbing of Islamabad, Sarfraz Ahmed’s Gladiators move back to the top of the table, replacing Peshawar Zalmi who had earlier claimed top position with a win over Karachi Kings.
