Sri Lanka struggling with bowling injuries

Nuwan Pradeep is the latest pace bowler struck by a hamstring injury and might not be able to make it into the second test. Sri Lanka’s amazing win over Australia in the first test is getting sore with each day passing.

Pradeep is not the only one who is struggling with injury in the Sri Lankan team. The list is long and with a week remaining before the start of the second test at Galle, Sri Lanka will be looking for a miracle before taking Pradeep in the playing eleven.

Dhammika Prasad and Dushmantha Chameera are already injured and out of the equation and if Pradeep does not play in the second game, then Sri Lanka will not have its three front arm pace bowlers and hence their vulnerability is confirmed. Also, Suranga Lakmal and leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay are not part of the squad so Sri Lanka is in trouble before the second test.

Sri Lankan skipper, Angelo Matthews feels that Pradeep bowled a lot in the England tour and that extra burden might have resulted in this injury. Workload management is very important. The amount of cricket we play these days needs management, else there will be injuries, Mathews said.

Sri Lankan were all out for just 117 in the first innings of the first test and yet they made a remarkable comeback and won the game at the end. It was hard to believe what the hosts did on the final day, but the spin factor will evidently make the difference in the second game as well.
