Sydney Thunder, Sixers to play tri-series with PSL’s Lahore Qalandars

In another step for enhancing positive cooperation between domestic T20 teams of the world, the world development squad teams for Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder and PSL (Pakistan Super League)’s Lahore Qalandars will compete in a four match tri-series in November as preparation for the newest Big Bash League season which starts on December 20.

Earlier this years, following Paddy Upton’s appointment as head coach of both Sydney Thunder and Lahore Qalandars, a deal was struck between the two teams formally establishing a relationship that was expected to lead to exchange of several facilities like coaching staff and academy players. The tri-series seems to be the first step in that regard.

The matches will to a great extent include academy and developmental players yet speak for further strengthening of relations between domestic T20 groups from around the world. This announcement came only a day after the Melbourne Stars declared an partnership between their male and female partners in Wellington. Dom Redmond, the General Manger of the Sydney Sixers, said the tri-series was “an incredible open door for our academy players to get polished with International ability”.

The incorporation of Sydney Sixers in the series proves the already strong relationship between the two Sydney BBL teams, something energized by the competition’s administration and last season saw the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup organized as a talent hunt for both teams starring clubs from their respective regions of Sydney.
