PSL Match 13, Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi: Peshawar Zalmi 153/3 (18.3/20 ov) beat Islamabad United 152/6 (20/20 ov) by 7 wickets
Bangladesh star opener Tamim Iqbal has been in red hot form and his 80 not out against Islamabad United in Match 13 of the PSL secured top spot for his Peshawar Zalmi side. Tamim hung on from the beginning till the end to give Shahid Afridi’s side a fairly comfortable chase against a decent United bowling lineup.
Chasing 153 on a good batting wicket, the Zalmi players never looked troubled. Mohammad Hafeez and Tamim Iqbal both started in explosive fashion. Hafeez and Shahid Yousuf both played handy knocks each to ensure Tamim got the right support from the other end. It was an all-round good performance from Afridi’s boys but the most credit goes to the man of the moment, Tamim Iqbal for his maginificent 80 off just 58 deliveries.
Earlier in the evening, Islamabad United batsmen showed that they seemed to have regained their real batting capabilities over the last few games. Shane Watson who had been instrumental over the last 3 games couldnt stay on for long this time out, but Sharjeel Khan and and Khalid Latif took on things brilliantly. The duo added 51 for the 2nd wicket partnership. Latif got a great helping hand from skipper Misbah who as making his comeback in the side after a 3 match absence.
Latif and Misbah smashed 50 plus runs between them in about 6 overs before the skipper departed thanks to a Wahab Riaz classic. This United vs Zalmi clash was more like a Misbah vs Afridi contest, with the two coming head to head multiple times in just the first innings. Misbah launched Afridi for 2 sixes off two deliveries, but it was Lala who got the last laugh taking Misbah’s catch to dismiss the United captain.
Khalid Latif stood on and held right till the end, making sure his Islamabad side finished strongly at 152/6.
