6 months back, nobody would have imagined something like the PSL (Pakistan Super League) taking any advancements, leave alone the competition taking the cricketing world by storm! The PSL has just raised the bar in incredible fashion! All credit goes to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who showcased a stunning event in Lahore to hold the first ever draft picks of Pakistan’s inaugural top level domestic T20 competition.
Each of the 5 frachises selected 3 Platinum, 3 Diamond and 3 Gold players. However, by the end of the day, there were still several high profile names which were left out of the drafts. Most of those players would be moved to the “supplementary” category now. Perhaps two of the most shocking exclusions of the day came in the form of Younis Khan and Saeed Ajmal.
Younis Khan had his name in the Platinum category, but ended up not being selected by any of the 5 franchises. Saeed Ajmal experienced similar fate. Younis Khan has been played a vital part for Team Pakistan in the Test format, however, it was his form in limited overs cricket, which led to his eventual retirement from the shorter formats. On the other hand, Saeed Ajmal has experienced an incredible free fall. Till September 2014, he was regarded the best spinner in World Cricket, but his faulty action led to a ban, and that eventually led to a redeveloped action. With his new action, Ajmal has failed to display even half the magic he displayed with his old action.
